About this webinar

The Residential Rentals and Evictions webinar will cover the theory of the law of lease as it was developed historically in our system of Roman Dutch Law, and as it has evolved in the current Constitutional dispensation, with regard to the application and effect of legislation on the rights and duties of parties to a residential lease agreement.

We will look at the handful of personal rights that make up the overarching real right of ownership, and how such rights may (or may not) be limited or secured.

The webinar will cover the application and effect of the Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act No. 19 of 1998 from both a practical and legal standpoint, including challenges to evictions faced by legal practitioners in the context of historic and new considerations

Background to this presentation

The webinar will focus on all legal aspects of rental property in general, with emphasis on the practical application of evictions in terms of the Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act 19 of 1998 (PIE).

Claire obtained her LLB Degree from the University of Pretoria in 2014. She joined SBL Incorporated during January 2015 as a candidate attorney. Claire was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa during 2017 and continued to hone her skills and experience as a formidable litigation Attorney, attending regularly to appearances of both opposed and unopposed motion hearings in the High Court and the Magistrates Court alike.

Claire’s niche lies in eviction procedure in terms of the Prevention of Illegal Evictions from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act No. 19 of 1998 (PIE Act), and more broadly, in terms of most other statutes relevant to property rights, including Consumer Protection law as it relates to letting of property, laws applicable to residential letting of property in terms of the Rental Housing Act and the Regulations thereto. Claire has most recently been appointed as a Director at SBL Incorporated.

How to register

Kindly note that registrations are done online. For certification purposes, participants should register individually, using their own email address. This will enable the system to generate a unique username and password for each person.
