An online course focusing on the last few years’ developments in Consumer Protection law, with an in-depth look at case law from both courts and the National Consumer Tribunal.  

Introduction

About this Course

The focus will be on areas where there have been new case law or other developments. A further focus will be on how to use Consumer Protection Act (the CPA) to fill legal gaps, and the course will discuss numerous  examples from practice relating to consumer claims for defective properties, defective cars and other machinery, timeshare contracts, dealing with ‘suppliers’ that scam consumers, life rights contracts in retirement villages, theft from gym lockers, food poisoning, defective medicines, cancelling printer / switchboard contracts, consumers’ right to cancel leases, non-compliant auctions, disputes with builders, disputes with banks, and much more.

TRUDIE BROEKMANN is an experienced attorney who practices for own account in Cape Town. She has specialised in consumer law since its implementation in 2008.

Who should register?

This course will be of value to legal practitioners who represent consumers or suppliers, as well as consumer-facing staff at any supplier of goods or services.  It is ideally suited to those who have worked with the Act before.

CPA expertise has become essential for general practitioners, attorneys specialising in contracts, commercial transactions, compliance, Road Accident Fund litigation, conveyancing and property transactions, and is also beneficial for deceased estates practitioners, banking, finance, and technology lawyers.

·         Practising legal practitioners and other staff from legal firms: R 1 650 per person.

·         Non-practising legal practitioners/others: R 2 500 per person.

How to register

Kindly note that registrations are done online. For certification purposes, participants should register individually, using their own email address. This will enable the system to generate a unique username and password for each person.STEP 1:Payment should be made by electronic funds transfer (EFT) only. You are required to upload the proof of payment (PDF) in step 2 – (Online registration form). ·         LSSA/LEAD shall have the right in its sole discretion to postpone or cancel tuition in any programme initially advertised and offered based on insufficient demand. Should LSSA/LEAD cancel the proposed training, registered delegates will be given reasonable notice of the cancellation and all fees paid by the delegate will be refunded.
