About this course
The Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), in partnership with Irish Rule of Law International (IRLI), Matheson LLP and Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, presents an intensive Commercial Legal Drafting Skills workshop series.
This programme runs over six consecutive weeks, offering half-day sessions designed to build practical commercial drafting expertise.
Commercial legal expertise is essential for good governance and economic development. This course is particularly valuable for practitioners working in rural or underserved communities, empowering them to support local businesses and contribute to economic growth.
Aim of the workshop series
The workshop aims to address economic imbalances in commercial law practice through skills transfer. Participants will gain knowledge of key legal principles and develop practical drafting techniques essential for commercial lawyers.
Invitation to apply
Practising legal practitioners are invited to apply. Up to 100 applicants will be selected through the LSSA and IRLI network.

- Sessions: Wednesdays | 11:30 – 14:30
- Closing date for applications: 15 April 2026
- Successful applicants notified by: 27 April 2026
- Platform: Zoom or MS Teams (to be confirmed)
- Registration fee (successful applicants only): R800.00 (VAT inclusive)
Who should apply?
Practising legal practitioners with at least three years’ experience.
Preference will be given to applicants who:
- Have limited or no exposure to commercial litigation or corporate transactions
- Work in smaller firms (four partners or less)
- Practice in rural or semi-urban areas

Course Dates
- Dates | 6th May – 10 June 2026
- The workshop is scheduled to take place on six consecutive Wednesdays commencing on 6th May 2026 and ending on 10th June 2026, from 11:30 to 14:30.
- The closing date for applications is 15th April 2026.
- LEAD will notify successful applicants by 27 April 2025 whereafter payment for the workshop need to be made. LEAD will issue a registration form for payment as part of the notice to successful applicants.
