What is FICA and why do we need FICA protocols

About this webinar and what the programme includes

The Financial Intelligence Centre Act (the FICA), as amended, requires amongst other that attorneys practising for their own account and incorporated legal practices must identify, assess, monitor, mitigate and manage the risks of legal services in relation to facilitating money laundering activities or the financing of terrorist and related activities or combating the proliferation of financing activities.

In doing so, legal practitioners practising attorneys and incorporated legal practices  are required to develop, document, maintain and implement a Risk Management and Compliance Programme (RMCP) with appropriate controls and measures. It is imperative for practitioners and employees who directly and indirectly engage with clients understand the risks and implement the controls and measures introduced in the RMCP. Non-compliance will have adverse implications for the practitioner, practice and public.

In its Public Compliance Communication No. 53 (PCC) the FIC specifically recommends that training should be provided to all employees and that evidence of the training should be retained. You will benefit from this webinar by being informed of the key FICA-compliance requirements to operate a legal practice.
