Develop your skills in drafting Wills and Testaments

About this course and what the programme includes

The purpose of this course is to educate all interested parties in the skill of drafting wills as well as a living will, including the loopholes to look out for when drafting these documents. This course aims to develop practical procedures for attendees to assist in the effective drafting of a usable and legally correct will and living will, by taking into account the relevant legislation.

Course content
•    Understand the difference between testate and intestate law of succession
•    Know the contents of a basic will
•    Know the format of a legally binding will
•    Know the format and contents of a living will
•    Know the procedure to revoke a living will and the format thereof

Advocate (Dr) James Clark has been a practising advocate in the High Court of South Africa for the past 19 years. He is well known for civil and criminal litigation, drafting of contracts and wills through the Law Society of South Africa’s Legal Education and Development (LEAD) division, Damelin and KMA. Advocate Clark is very knowledgeable on the Administration of Deceased Estates ,and his detailed and strict approach to the drafting of wills is a new, innovative approach to such drafting. Advocate Clark has international exposure to drafting for the South African government and other international institutions, as well as being an internationally recognised author.

Registration fee categories (including VAT):

•    Practising legal practitioners and other staff from legal firms: R 1 550 per person.
•    Non-practising legal practitioners/others: R 2 300 per person.

How to register

Kindly note that you can only register online and that there are limited places available. Participants should be registered individually to enable the system to generate a unique username and password for each person.

Payment should be made by electronic funds transfer (EFT) only. Once you have successfully registered to participate, you will receive confirmation that we have received your registration documentation. You will receive a system-generated e-mail with a link (Microsoft Teams) to the webinar at least 24 hours before the webinar starts. Read the instructions in the e-mail carefully and test your link (Microsoft Teams) to the webinar page at least 20 min before it starts.

  • No cancellations will be accepted after the course material and link have been shared. Participants who do not cancel timeously and/or fail to attend the webinar will forfeit the amount paid towards this course.
  • Should you need to cancel your registration, you need to do so in writing before the course link and material are shared. No cancelation will be accepted after it has been made available and failure to comply with this will result in the full fee being charged.
  • LEAD might record the course for QA purposes. According to Company policy and copyright protection, recordings or the PowerPoint presentation will not be made available after the course.
  • LSSA/LEAD shall have the right in its sole discretion to postpone or cancel tuition in any programme initially advertised and offered based on insufficient demand. Should LSSA/LEAD cancel the proposed training, registered delegates will be given reasonable notice of the cancellation and all fees paid by the delegate will be refunded.
