About this course

Revision of  the basic rules relating to civil litigation in the Magistrate’s Courts and putting them into practice. The steps from the  beginning to the end of a civil matter are dealt with.

Who should register?

This training is aimed at individuals who want to improve their knowledge pertaining to general aspects of Civil Litigation in the Magistrates Court i.e. legal support staff, candidate legal practitioners, LLB students, people considering working in the legal profession, paralegals, debt collectors, etc.

Course outline

•    Understand the most popular legal jargon used by attorneys and the courts.
•    Understand the differences between Motion Procedures (Applications) and Action Procedures (Actions).
•    Understand the basic flow of the Motion process.
•    Understand the basic flow of the Action process.
•    Be able to anticipate the next step in the action or motion process and draft the required pleading, notice or document.
•    Demonstrate an understanding of the required format of the court documents.
•    Be able to plan and diarise a matter based on the anticipated next step.
•    Understand the steps to be taken when executing judgment (enforcement of a court order)

Certification

All sessions are mandatory to qualify for a certificate.

Presenters

Kyle Kietzmann has been a practising attorney since 2014. He opened his practise in 2016 in Pretoria and opened a branch in Johannesburg in April 2022. His law firm specialises in civil matters, labour matters, criminal matters, debt collecting, deceased estates, contractual law, commercial law, family law, maintenance, protection orders.
As a lecturer for the Law Society of South Africa, Legal Education and Development (LEAD), he has lectured since 2016 in the following subjects: magistrates court practice, labour law, wills and estates, criminal law, debt collecting, casework, business writing, ethics, legal costs.

Non-practising legal practitioners/others:  R2 500 per person.
How to register
Kindly note that registrations are done online. For certification purposes, participants should register individually, using their own email address. This will enable the system to generate a unique username and password for each person.STEP 1:
